A question I get asked all the time is what’s the best way to get traffic on Etsy? The reason I get asked this all the time is because traffic is a really important part of your online business. If you don’t have traffic, if you don’t have people visiting your Etsy shop or your website, then you are not going to get any sales.
Hi I’m Kat from craftercoach.com and you are listening to a Crafter Q&A where I answer your creative business questions so that you will never feel lost with your craft business ever again.
A question I get asked all the time is what’s the best way to get traffic on Etsy? The reason I get asked this all the time is because traffic is a really important part of your online business. If you don’t have traffic, if you don’t have people visiting your Etsy shop or your website, then you are not going to get any sales. You do need to have eyes on your store in order to run a successful business.
Make Sure Your Shop Is Ready For People To See
The first thing I would suggest is to make sure that your shop is ready for people to see it in the first place.
That means that all of your products need to be in there, they need to be well optimized. Your photographers need to be fantastic and then you can start thinking about traffic. If you are an Etsy seller, start with Etsy optimization.
This means making sure that your tags, your titles, and your descriptions are optimized so that Etsy will start to show your listing in such results. This is a great way to get traffic. It happens over time. It is organic. It doesn’t cost you anything and all you need to do is make sure that you have really good descriptive titles, descriptions, and tags that are related to your items.
The Power Of Social Media
That would be step number one. Step number two is to start to promote your business yourself. I always think that probably 75% of our time in our business needs to be focused on promoting, on driving traffic to your Etsy shop or to your website. There’s a few ways you can do this. Social media is a big one and it is a very successful way to get more eyes on your store.
Paid advertising is fantastic as well and you can use paid advertising on Etsy itself or you could use Facebook advertising. You could advertise in craft magazines, online craft magazines; you could advertise using Google Adwords. There are so many options there. You just need to pick one and learn how to do it and make it work for you.
Advertising Using Promoted Listings On Etsy
Advertising using promoted listings on Etsy is perhaps the easiest way to get started or using Facebook ads and just boosting your posts in your Facebook page.
They are the two easiest ways to get started with advertising in my opinion. As far as social media goes, my favorites are Facebook or Pinterest and Pinterest is my favorite. I am very biased against it because it works so well for me.
Dedicate Enough Time To Promote Your Products
You’ll need to be dedicated to spending some time setting up that Pinterest account and then learning how to use it to send visitors to your Etsy shop or your website.
I’ve spent the last 6 to 8 months building up my Pinterest account to the point now where it sends me more than a 1000 visitors a week to my website. It is definitely worth your while.
Now, I have a really great Pinterest class inside of my crafter community.
If you are interested in learning more about how to send traffic to your Etsy shop or your website with Pinterest, you can join my crafter community, where you will find a great Pinterest class that would tell you everything you need to know. You can find out more at craftercoach.com/community.
What’s The Best Way To Get Traffic On Etsy?
Wrapping up the traffic question,
Number one – make sure that your shop is ready for people to see it.
Make sure that you’ve optimised either your website or your Etsy shop for being found in search results. That means your titles, your descriptions, your tags, they all need to be very descriptive and keyword based.
Number two – You need to promote. You need to spend at least 75% of your time promoting your business.
To do this, I would suggest just picking one or two things and sticking to that; working really hard on those until they begin to pay you back with more traffic.
Number three, Pinterest is my favorite because I’ve built it up so that it gives me more than 1000 visitors to my website every week.
It has become something that just happens. It is very hands-off. That’s why I recommend Pinterest. If I can learn Pinterest, you guys can do it too.
And that is my answer to this Crafter Q&A and if you want more help from me personally you can check out my Crafter Community at craftercoach.com/community, that’s it from me until next week. Bye for now.
