Hi I’m Kat from craftercoach.com and you are listening to a Crafter Q&A where I answer your creative business questions so that you will never feel lost with your craft business ever again.
This week somebody asked me how to find the time to work on their Etsy shop every day.
There’s a few things that I do to make sure that I have time to get everything that I need to get done for my business on a daily basis, and when it comes down to it we’re all busy, we have kids or jobs, we’re busy with household chores or cooking dinner or food shopping or whatever it is, we have busy lives.
The thing is if you want to find the time you’ll find the time.
Time Tips For Busy Crafters
Number one, it comes down to being disciplined.
You need to think about where in your day you can find that 30 minutes or that hour or those 2 hours, whatever time you decide that you want to work on your business you need to figure out where in the day you are going to find that and then you need to schedule that in.
Are you going to perhaps get up 30 minutes earlier? Are you going to sacrifice 30 minutes of television time at night? Are you going to sneak in 30 minutes while the baby is asleep in the afternoon?
You Will Find The Time If You Want Too…
If you want to make this work you need to have the discipline to find that time.
Once you have found that time and scheduled that time into your day make it routine, make it something that you do every day like making breakfast or eating lunch, just make it a habit.
If you schedule that time every day and then make it routine it becomes easier to stick to it and sticking to it is the most important part because if you stick to that 30 minutes a day or that hour a day that you’ve set aside you’ll notice that your business starts to grow.
This is better than freaking out and worrying that you don’t have 3 hours a day to spend on your business. Just take whatever time you have and use it effectively, schedule it, make it routine and stick to it.
The Ultimate Magic Happens When…
The real magic happens when you sit down for that 30 minutes actually having a plan of what you want to get done and then attacking it.
For me, every afternoon I plan out my 3 most important things for the next day and then when I have my time to sit down and start working I turn off all my distractions and then I do my most important things first, my 3 most important things.
If I do that it doesn’t matter if I get interrupted later on, it doesn’t matter if I have something that makes me stop working for the rest of the day because I’ve done my 3 most important things and then life can take over after that.
If we can manage to stick to a routine, even if it’s just 30 minutes a day and then make sure you get your 3 most important things done, it will do magical things for the progress of your business. Give it a try.
