In today’s Q&A I’m talking about four reasons why an Etsy store is the right choice for you.
So I had an email from a lady who is considering starting an Etsy store but she wasn’t 100% sure whether or not it was the right path for her, she was thinking Etsy store or possibly Ebay or even her own website.
Should You Sell Your Crafts On Etsy?
Maybe. It depends.
Let’s cover four reasons why an Etsy store could be the right choice for you:
#1 YOUR PRODUCTS FIT THE ETSY CRITERIA
Etsy if perfect if you have a hand-made item or you have supplies for hand-made products or you sell vintage.
Those are the three things that Etsy is known for, it’s what Etsy grew on and it’s what makes Etsy unique from any other platform.
So if you do have a hand-made product that you actually designed or you actually make yourself, a supply to make hand-made items or vintage then you definitely need to look at selling on Etsy.
#2 YOUR TARGET CUSTOMERS SHOP ON ETSY
Think about whether or not your target market shops on Etsy. Do the people that you think will be buying your items shop on Etsy?
Now, if your target market is female then there’s a good chance that they’ve heard of Etsy and perhaps even shopped there before, if they are female and into DIY or crafts then there’s a really, really good chance that they have shopped on Etsy before and it is the perfect place for you.
If you’re not a 100% sure if your target market shops on Etsy then perhaps go to Etsy and start typing in your products and things that are similar to what you would like to sell into the search bar and see what pops up.
If your item doesn’t show up at all then perhaps that means that there’s no demand for it on Etsy, but if it does come then you know that other people are selling the same products as you which is a good sign that your target market actually shops there.
#3 YOUR PRODUCT CAN BE SOLD ONLINE
Do you have a product that actually lends itself to being posted efficiently?
So what I mean by this is, does your product have the ability to be shipped around in the post without getting broken? Can you post it to people without having to charge them an absolute fortune?
Is it not too heavy and not too bulky or big that people are going to have to pay ridiculously shipping costs for.
You need to figure out whether or not the product that you are thinking of selling on Etsy can be posted at a cost that is effective for you and also attractive for your target market.
#4 YOU NEED SOME TRAFFIC!
Number four of my reasons why Etsy store is right for you is if you don’t have access to a large traffic source. If you don’t have access to a large traffic source it can be really difficult especially in the beginning if you have your own website to try and build traffic to come to that website and that is where Etsy comes in.
Etsy has mass amounts of traffic that comes to it every single day, people looking to purchase something.
So if you don’t have access to a traffic source like that, then Etsy can be the perfect place for you to get started, so think about that aspect of it.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Recapping quickly, four reasons why an Etsy store could be right for you:
1) If you have a hand-made product or supply or vintage item?
2) If your target market actually shops on Etsy?
3) Can you post your content at a price that is gonna keep everybody happy?
4) If you don’t have access to a large traffic source?
So if you fit all of those things, an Etsy shop could be the perfect place for you to start selling your creative products.
And that’s the answer to that question this week.
